We are a busy scrap metal recycling facility based in Hobart, committed to safety, efficiency and high-quality service. Due to increasing workload, we are seeking a reliable and experienced Excavator Operator to join our team on a casual basis.
About the Role
The Casual Excavator Operator and Yard Hand will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating excavators within a scrap metal yard environment. This includes loading/unloading materials, sorting scrap, feeding processing equipment and maintaining a clean and safe work area. Shifts may vary depending on workload and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
Safely operate excavators fitted with grabs, magnets or buckets
Load and unload scrap metal from trucks and bins
Sort, move, and stockpile materials
Feed shredders, shears or other processing equipment as required
Conduct daily pre-start checks and report maintenance issues
Assist yard staff with general duties when required
Follow all WHS policies and procedures
Maintain a clean, organised and safe work area
Communicate effectively with truck drivers, weighbridge and yard team
Skills & Experience
Proven experience operating excavators (essential)
Experience in scrap metal, demolition, recycling, civil or similar industries (highly regarded)
Ability to safely operate attachments such as grabs and magnets
Strong awareness of yard safety, pedestrians and vehicle movements
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Reliable, punctual and safety-focused
Qualifications
Valid excavator/plant operator licence or competency ticket
Current driver’s licence
White Card (preferred)
Forklift licence (desirable but not required)
