An opportunity is available for a Mechanical Engineer to join our team based at our facility in Bassendean in a permanent full-time contract.
Support Vehicles Australia are leaders in the design and manufacturing of bespoke heavy equipment, primarily supplying the mining industry. Role Responsibilities
Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will join our engineering team who are responsible for the design and development of SVA products. Your role includes, but is not limited to
- Perform design calculations to ensure safe design and compliance with Australian Standards/ ISO standards, local and national regulations and legislation (ADR, RVS, VSB6).
- Prepare and sign documents for legal compliance.
- Produce design drawings including required additional information i.e. welding standards, paint standards, tolerances etc, following drawing processes and control procedures.
- Ensure engineering to compliance with Australian Standards, ISO and legislation.
- Completing risk assessments, stress management, and finite element analysis (FEA) on structures.
- Generate drawings and calculations of designs.
- Undertaking testing of equipment under development and document and report findings.
- Analyse data and calculations while making design changes to improve performance of machine upgrades and new equipment.
- Perform root cause investigation of failed components and generate technical reports
- Produce CAD models and drawings using SolidWorks + PDM
- Develop/create Bills of Materials and Job Packages.
- Developing of 3D Scanning capability using Polyworks software
- Checking mechanical designs and detail drawings
- Responding to internal engineering requests (Engineering Job Requests – EJRs)
- Conduct internal design review meetings with engineering team.
- Collaborate with workshops on technical queries and improvements.
- Provide technical support and guidance to draftpersons, junior engineers, sales and aftermarket service teams.
- Perform/review hydraulic and electrical design and calculations in liaison with Hydraulic and Electrical Engineers.
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have the following:
- Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree (essential to the role)
- Proven experience in manufacturing and mining industries.
- Experience in metal fabrication, hydraulic systems and electrical and electronic systems.
- Proven proficiency with 3D modelling applications (SolidWorks and AutoCAD)
- Willingness and interested to expand knowledge base about design of mining equipment and fabrication methods
- Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills in order to work with colleagues, suppliers and other personnel on a daily basis.
- Good organisation, multitasking and time management skills that delivers effective planning and house keeping standards.
- Passion for engineering and analytical mindset
- Self motivated
- Strong commitment to health and safety
- Computer experience using standard MS Office suite of programs
A skills assessment will be required at interview to demonstrate competency and understanding.
Salary range is $110,000 – $130,000 based on qualification and skills.
Hours of work is Monday to Friday, minimum of 38 hours per week, average 42-45 hours per week.
