Wheel loader operator (log loader)

About us:

Orana Enterprises Pty Ltd is a Tasmanian family-owned forestry harvest and haulage contractor operating all over the state of Tasmania. We employ over 120 local people from a diverse range of backgrounds in roles working as forestry machine operators, log and chip truck drivers, workshop/field technicians and support staff, and in administration, compliance, and safety roles.

Our business contracts for three major Tasmanian forest managers and harvests over 700,000t/pa of log product in plantation hardwood, pine and regrowth native forest estates with active harvest crews operating all around the state. We transport over 1,000,000t/pa of logs and run a truck fleet with more than 50 company owned prime movers.

The position we need filled:

We’re on the hunt for a full-time wheel loader operator to unload logging trucks at a mill/log yard site in Bell Bay, Tasmania.

You’ll be operating a Komatsu WA600 wheel loader fitted with a large capacity Ensign unloading grab. Your job will be to lift log loads off contractor log trucks. From there you’ll either stockpile those logs or present them to operators on a log deck for further processing. Whilst we’d love someone with log loader experience, we’ll take someone with wheel loader experience. If the right motivated individual comes along who is teachable, well-mannered and willing to learn and develop their skills on the job we’ll have a crack at training you if you have some general heavy machinery experience. We can build off that.

Work on offer is Monday – Friday with occasional weekend work offered but not required of you. Start time is flexible but in this position we are required to man the loader and be ready for trucks between 2am to 5pm and that’s too much for one operator. We’ve got the morning covered and need you to start somewhere between 8am and 11am but you won’t be clocking off until 5pm.

No work vehicle is provided for this position so you’ll need reliable transport to get yourself from home to the site at Bell Bay each day. The closer you live to the job site the better for you!

Mandatory criteria:

• You must be willing and able to pass a pre-employment medical test and drug screening.

• Have a current and unrestricted drivers licence and reliable transport to get you to and from the job site.

• Be based around Bell Bay, George Town, East/West Tamar or Launceston.

• Either have some machinery experience and a willingness to learn or have solid wheel loader/log loader experience.
